Boxing Title Sequence

I’m just doing a bit of research for a Motion Graphic Film Title & Credit sequence workshop I am teaching on the 8th & 9th of January 2011 with Signal Films up in Cumbria. I did a previous session last November when we worked with a group of Students between the ages of 13 to 16 and introduced them to the Art of the Title Sequence. This upcoming workshop will see the students devising their own Motion Title & Credit sequence for a film they shot in November 2010. Here is the opening title sequence to Raging Bull;

A short clip from Shane Meadow’s Twenty Four Seven;

Signal Film Teaching Weekend

Here are some of the photos from last weekends Signal Films ‘Choose Your Own Ending’ film shoot. The shoot was done all in a day which was a mammoth task in itself. It went very well and that is testimony to all the pre-production that the Filmmakers had done. There were a few hiccups along the way but that is always the case. Everyone had a brilliant time and a lot of fun….hopefully picking up a few techniques along the way. The edit was done on the sunday with each of the Filmmakers editing the scene that they had directed the previous day. I will post the final film in the next couple of days.

Thanks to Signal Films, Cookie Monster Alex, the Filmmakers and actors for a brilliant few days in the Lakes.

Signal ‘Choices Story’ Scriptwriting Day

Had a brilliant day meeting up with Signal Films and First Take in the ‘Emerging New Media Skills’ advanced course that we have been running. Both the Cumbrian and Liverpool group met up in the morning for a brew to discuss their interactive story ideas. In the afternoon, the Cumbrian group moved to the Hatch’s Elevator studios to develop their ideas and formulate a plan of action. We brainstormed some ideas for the narrative of the story and then set up a structure of ‘Story Arc’ events that will allow the viewer to make choices in affecting the outcome of the story. We are scheduled to shoot all the scenes in one day and then do the edit & post production on the 2nd day. (March 21, 22). Will keep you posted on how it goes….

A Massive Thank You

Hi All, I would just like to say a Massive Thank You to the Dalton New Digital Media group for being such a fun group to work with. I really enjoyed the course and thought the results were brilliant. Thanks for your patience with technical issues as well.

Below are the Teaching Materials for the course, your audio files/ video links and some useful hints & tips. You can access other teaching materials in the Teaching Resources category to the right as well. The best bit of advice I can give to continue your New Media career is to just ‘Jump on in & get your hands dirty!’ I am a big fan of project based learning and would advocate setting yourself small mini projects to learn software and experiment with new ideas. But above all have Fun and the confidence will come as a result of you ‘playing with Software and technology’.

All the best and good luck for your future projects. Please don’t hesitate to contact me on chris@thehatch.tv if you have any problems or would like to discuss ideas etc, it would be great to hear from you. Bye for now!
