Splinter Shoot

Had a fun time today doing a film shoot with all the lovely people at Splinter . Managed to turn their meeting room into a small photography/ film studio. The idea for the shoot was to film the subject on a completely bleached out white background.

We did the shoot on a Sony EX3 XD Cam camera using the 1080 25p settings. Using a pure white Calumet backdrop, we used a couple of Ianaro redheads (with scrim) to bleach the white background to the effect we were after. We then used a couple of Bowens with Soft Light boxes on to act as a Key and Fill light on the subject. Then to round off, we used one of the redheads to back light the subject to create a bit of depth in the frame. We used Senheisser Radio mics for the audio.

Thanks to Claire from Splinter for looking after us with the brews.

Cinema 4D

Just getting my head into C4D and trying to learn the package. I followed a tutorial by the Gorilla at http://greyscalegorilla.com/blog/2009/03/intro-to-cinema-4d-tutorial/

The Greyscalegorilla links to a couple of other great sites; http://www.helloluxx.com/ & http://cgpov.com/

Here is my first attempt at a C4D render. It’s only a test shot but I was quite happy with it.

Three Light Setup of a Jazz Player

A really interesting 2 part video of a ’3 Light Setup’ of a Jazz player. It’s a static photo shoot but the same principles would apply for film. Take a look if you are interesting in lighting subjects;

Timelapse … Got me thinking!

The light was so good at Liverpool St Georges Hall that it inspired me to do another Timelapse film but with a number of short edits! Need to wait for a day when the light is as good and I am going to plan on shooting it with an SG Pro 35 mm Lens adaptor for the Sony Z1.
