The Learning Lighthouse – Digital Photography & Photoshop Session

I had a brilliant day at the Learning Lighthouse last Thursday where I ran a Digital Photography and Photoshop session for 7-11 yr olds with their parents/ grandfathers and guardians. Each session was only 2hrs long and the children/ adults got through quite a lot and more importantly had a lot of fun learning (then breaking) the rules of Photography. The first part of the session was a practical based learning as the young photographers used digital cameras and we followed the Digital Photography Tips & Tricks Presentation . The group then did an introduction to Photoshop and ‘played’ with making titles and adding filters to their photographs. Here is a gallery of all the final pieces. You don’t have to have Photoshop to edit your photographs, there are lots of free on-line photo-editing software . Well done to all the students now photographers who participated on the course and thanks to the lovely crew at The Learning Lighthouse.

Grey Scale Gorilla

I am writing a presentation for Salford University on thursday and so am going to talk a little bit about Cloud broadcasting. What better example to user than the Gorilla himself GSG . Am going to talk about Ustream and the endless possibilities for producing content ‘by the people for the people’.

How to Stay Productive & Create Great Work

The First Date Complex

Here is the final interactive film called ‘The First Date Complex’ that I worked with Signal Films on. Well done to all the filmmakers who really worked their socks off!

Signal Film Teaching Weekend

Here are some of the photos from last weekends Signal Films ‘Choose Your Own Ending’ film shoot. The shoot was done all in a day which was a mammoth task in itself. It went very well and that is testimony to all the pre-production that the Filmmakers had done. There were a few hiccups along the way but that is always the case. Everyone had a brilliant time and a lot of fun….hopefully picking up a few techniques along the way. The edit was done on the sunday with each of the Filmmakers editing the scene that they had directed the previous day. I will post the final film in the next couple of days.

Thanks to Signal Films, Cookie Monster Alex, the Filmmakers and actors for a brilliant few days in the Lakes.

Art @ Sidcot School

I have been sent this link by the lovely ladies Patsi & April at the Learning Lighthouse CLC in Wallasey! It is a guy called Ross Wallis, art@sidcot school who does some real fun stuff with his photography sessions. I am going to take a look for some inspiration as I will be teaching a session with some young children at the Lighthouse soon.

The Dalton Musical Maestros

Did a really fun music session today in Dalton with the ‘Crash Course in New Digital Media’ posse! The course has been organised by Signal Films in Cumbria who have been absolutley brilliant to work with. We spent the morning working in Garageband where the Learners put together these tracks in a couple of hours. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun and the musical results are extremely diverse. Very Impressive! Well done to the DMM’s!

To download – Click on the track and in the far right drop down, you can download the source of the music!

Digital Imagery

Here are the Slides for a course I am teaching for Signal Films up in Cumbria. The course deals with the Basic Rules & Techniques in Photography. Although it deals with the static frame, it is definitely worth a look for any filmmakers as these are techniques that can be carried through to the moving image.
